The campaign to “Buy Black” is hardly a new one. For decades, Black activists and leaders have encouraged Black people to spend their money in their own communities to help create wealth. It’s how the historic Greenwood District in Tulsa, Oklahoma thrived as Black Wall Street before it was burned to the ground by white supremacists. It’s also how Madame CJ Walker became a millionaire in the middle of a crisis.

While some have heeded the calls to circulate the Black dollar among Black businesses, others took a little longer to join the movement. However, in the wake of the tragic murder of George Floyd, the Buy Black movement is gaining more traction than ever. Hey better late than never, right?

This is why we at Hy-LoNews think it’s important to do our part by highlighting Black-owned businesses in our community you can patronize. Since Rona (which is Blackese for coronavirus in case you’ve been living under a rock) is turning up once again in Florida, people may not be as willing to risk being in these COVID-19 streets at the moment. And we all know how crazy we can look when we’re stuck in quarantine.

But we got you. Here are 15 Black-owned beauty brands that will help you be ‘COVID-cute’ until you can get back to your stylists, barbers and aestheticians.

This company is making Haiti proud with its “natural and ethical” beauty products sourced from the island nation.
