Let me guess: Right now, you’re probably asking yourself, WTF even IS a pineapple knot? Well, my friend, I’m here to tell you that it’s actually an elite braiding method that mimics all the beautiful crisscross patterns of an actual pineapple. From the crown of the head all the way down to the ends, this look is basically a work of art. Hairstylist Imebet Thompson is the mastermind behind this episode of The Braid Up, and trust me when I say you won’t be able to look away from this next-level style. Oh, and did I mention there’s even a pop of red hair woven into this look? Yeah, it’s kinda the definition of flawless.

So now that you’re definitely going to rock this pineapple creation, here are all the tips you’ll want to keep in mind to pull it off:

1. Part your hair properly. With all the different braids and patterns in this look, you’re def gonna want to work with sleek, defined parts and even sections of hair. Try out a metal rat-tail comb—it’ll help you get super precise while you’re sectioning off your hair.

2. Don’t forget to moisturize! You shouldn’t have to worry about scalp dryness when you’re braiding. Massage a few drops of peppermint or castor oil between your braids to stop any flakes or dry spots from popping up.

3. Throw in some colored extensions. A pop of red (or even a shade of honey blonde) will look sooo good with this style. Use some colorful pre-stretched braiding hair for extra volume, length, and variety. What more could ya ask for?

4. Prevent buildup with ACV. Apple cider vinegar is such a great way to cleanse your hair while it’s in a protective style. If you want to stay fresh between your wash days, massage a diluted apple cider vinegar serum through your scalp to eliminate any lingering residue.
