I believe that every season requires a slight tweak in your regimen.  Winter is definitely a season when many naturals put their hair into hiding.  Now that spring is here let your hair come out to play!  Spring is my favorite time of year for my hair.  This is the time of year where I tend to do more “-out” styles like braidouts, twistouts and wash & go’s.  The air is not so cold to really dry out my hair; nor is it so humid making me feel hot and sweaty.  Here are some tips for transitioning into spring hair care!

Co-wash more often instead of using shampoo.

  • If you haven’t tried it already, spring is the perfect time for co-washing! Find a moisturizing daily conditioner that you like. Use that in place of shampoo to wash your hair. Avoid heavily fragranced conditioners with silicones; they can leave residue on the hair over time. The amount of products you use in your hair will dictate how often you will need to co-wash your hair.

Try spritzing your hair throughout the day.

  • If you feel the increase in temperature is making your hair thirstier, spritz it more often throughout the day. You can do this with purified water or aloe vera juice. Throw in a few drops of an essential oil like rosemary, sage, or sandalwood which will make your scalp sing!

Don’t forget to moisturize!

  • Just because winter is over, doesn’t mean you throw your moisturizing efforts out the window! This is the time of year where water-based moisturizers really shine (get it)! A water based moisturizer seeps right into the hair keeping it moist and smooth without weighing the hair down.
  • I introduced the LOC method as a way to seal moisture into the hair. This too can be modified for the spring. Instead of using the heavy hair butters of the winter, try switching out to something lighter.
  • To seal in moisture try lighter oils. Some options include mixing haitian black castor oil with jojoba oil, olive oil or that coconut oil that finally thawed out from the winter chill!

Less is more!

  • Are you using a leave-in conditioner, moisturizer, gel, mousse and oil? Don’t overburden your hair with an abundance of products. Keep your styling products to a minimum to avoid oversaturated hair and product build-up.

Drink more water!

  • As with any season, hair needs water to flourish. Just like flowers, your hair needs water in the spring to bloom in the summer!

I enjoyed this oil. The fragrance was wonderful - I got compliments because of it. Next time, I will order a bigger bottle! Also, I have began to notice that my hair appears thicker since I started using it.
